Profile & Settings¶
Manage your personal account settings, language preference, theme, profile picture, and security options.
Target Audience: All Bifolk users
Accessing Your Profile¶
Click your username in the top navigation bar to open your profile page. The page displays your current profile picture, username, and email address at the top.
Account Information¶
You can update the following account details on the profile page:
- Username: Your login name, displayed throughout the application
- Email: Your email address (used for notifications and password recovery)
To save changes, click the Update profile button at the bottom of the form.
Profile Settings¶
Profile Picture¶
Upload a profile picture to personalize your account. Images are automatically resized to 300x300 pixels.
- Click Choose File in the image field
- Select an image from your device
- Click Update profile
If you do not upload a picture, a default image is used.
Note
Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP. Maximum file size: 5 MB.
Language¶
Bifolk supports two languages:
- English (default)
- German (Deutsch)
To change your language:
- Select your preferred language in the Preferred Language dropdown
- Click Update profile
- The interface switches immediately to the selected language
You can also change the language using the language switcher in the navigation bar. This updates your saved preference automatically without visiting the profile page.
Note
When you first register, Bifolk automatically detects your browser language and sets it as your preference.
Theme Preference¶
Choose how Bifolk appears on your screen:
| Theme | Description |
|---|---|
| Light | Light background with dark text |
| Dark | Dark background with light text |
| System (default) | Follows your device's system preference |
You can switch the theme using the theme toggle in the navigation bar. The change takes effect immediately and your preference is saved to your profile.
Breeder Registry¶
If you participate in a breeder registry such as BeeBreed.eu, you can save your credentials here once. Bifolk will then pre-fill these values whenever you create a new queen.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Country Code | ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code (e.g., DE, AT, CH) |
| Association ID | State or regional beekeeping association number |
| Breeder ID | Your breeder number within your association |
Note
These fields are optional and only relevant if you use a breeder registry. They do not affect any other part of Bifolk.
Default Report Date Range¶
Choose the default date range used when viewing reports:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Current Year (default) | Shows data from January 1st of the current year |
| Last 365 Days | Shows data from the past 365 days |
This setting affects the initial date range on all report pages. You can still adjust the date range manually on each report.
Security¶
The security section appears below the profile form. It is only shown for accounts that use username and password login (not for accounts using Single Sign-On).
Two-Factor Authentication (MFA)¶
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring a code from an authenticator app in addition to your password.
To set up two-factor authentication:
- On your profile page, find the Security section
- Click the Manage button next to "Two-Factor Authentication"
- Follow the instructions to set up a TOTP authenticator (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar apps)
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
- Enter the verification code to confirm setup
After setup, you will receive recovery codes. Store these in a safe place -- they allow you to log in if you lose access to your authenticator app.
Warning
If your administrator has made MFA mandatory, you must set it up within the grace period or you will be unable to access the application.
Tip
If your administrator requires MFA, you cannot remove your last authenticator. The Manage page will prevent you from deleting it.
Password Management¶
Changing Your Password¶
- Go to your account security settings
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Enter and confirm your new password
- Click Save
Forgot Password¶
If you forgot your password:
- Click Forgot Password on the login page
- Enter your email address
- Check your email for a password reset link
- Click the link and set a new password
Note
Password management is only available for accounts using username and password login. If you log in via Single Sign-On (SSO), your password is managed by your identity provider.
Changelog Notifications¶
When Bifolk is updated to a new version, a changelog notification appears. After reviewing the changes, you can dismiss it. The application remembers which version you last viewed so the notification does not appear again until the next update.
Organization Settings¶
If you are an Owner or Admin of an organization, you can also configure organization-level settings. See Organization Management for details on:
- Organization name, type, and description
- Organization logo
- Color theme (primary and secondary colors)
- Date format and timezone
- Unit system (metric/imperial)
- Email notification preferences
- Charge and bucket numbering formats
