Harvest Records¶
Bifolk lets you record harvests of honey, honeycomb, pollen, propolis, and wax, and track production across your hives. Each harvest record captures the date, weight, harvest type, and which hives were involved. Honey and honeycomb harvest records are also the starting point for the honey traceability chain.
Target Audience: Beekeepers tracking honey and other product harvests
Overview¶
A harvest record documents a single harvest event -- the extraction of honey, honeycomb, pollen, propolis, or wax from one or more hives on a specific date. Key features include:
- Harvest types -- record honey, honeycomb (Wabenhonig), pollen, propolis, or wax harvests
- Multi-hive harvests -- select multiple hives when products are pooled together (honey and honeycomb only)
- Honey type tracking -- categorize honey and honeycomb harvests by type (e.g., Forest Honey, Blossom Honey)
- Batch assignment -- link harvests to batches for traceability (honey, honeycomb, pollen, propolis, wax)
- Filtering and sorting -- find harvests by date, hive, honey type, harvest type, or organization
- Harvest reports -- view aggregated harvest data in the reporting section
Viewing Harvest Records¶
Harvest List¶
- Click Harvests in the sidebar to open the harvest list
- The list shows all harvest records for your current organization (or all organizations if none is selected)
- Each row displays the date, hive(s), weight, frames harvested, honey type, harvest type, batch assignment, and who performed the harvest
The list is paginated with 20 records per page. A total count is shown in the list header.

When no organization is selected in the site-wide organization selector, an information banner indicates that you are viewing harvests from all your organizations.
Sorting¶
You can sort the harvest list by clicking the column headers for:
- Date -- harvest date (default, newest first)
- Honey Type -- alphabetical by honey type
- Weight -- by harvest weight
- Created At -- by record creation date
Click a column header once to sort ascending, click again to sort descending.
Filtering¶
Click the Show Filters button above the harvest list to reveal the filter panel. Available filters:

After setting your filters, click Apply Filters to update the list. Click Reset Filters to clear all filters and return to the default view.
Tip
The date range defaults to the past 12 months. Adjust the date filters to see older harvests.
Harvest Detail Page¶
Click the view button (eye icon) on any harvest to open its detail page. The detail page shows:
- Harvest Information -- date, harvest type, weight, frames harvested, honey type, harvested by, and creation date
- Honeycomb Items -- (honeycomb harvests only) the selected honeycomb inventory items with their quantities and unit weights
- Hives -- all hives involved in this harvest, with their type and current health status. You can click through to each hive's detail page.
- Notes -- any additional notes recorded with the harvest
- Batch Assignment -- whether this harvest is linked to a honey batch, with options to view the batch or reassign the harvest
Creating a Harvest Record¶
You can create a harvest record in two ways:
- From the harvest list: Click Record New Harvest
- From a hive detail page: Click the harvest action (the hive will be pre-selected)
Harvest Form Fields¶

Honeycomb Harvests¶
When you set the Harvest Type to "Honeycomb", the form changes to show an inline table where you enter the frame specifications directly — no warehouse items need to be set up in advance.
For each comb frame size you add:

You can add as many rows as needed (click Add Row) and remove rows by checking Remove. The total harvest weight is calculated automatically by summing up each frame weight multiplied by its quantity.

Honeycomb inventory items are created automatically in your warehouse when you save the harvest. Items with the same frame weight from the same batch are reused across harvests, so your inventory stays consistent without manual setup.
Info
Honeycomb harvests create their own separate batches (charges) with a -WH suffix in the charge identifier. For example, if your honey batch is 2025-Waldhonig, the corresponding honeycomb batch will be 2025-Waldhonig-WH. This keeps honeycomb production separate from standard honey production in the traceability chain.
Pollen, Propolis, and Wax Harvests¶
Pollen, propolis, and wax harvests work similarly to honey/honeycomb but with key differences:
Pollen & Propolis:
- Enter weight in grams (automatically converted to kg for storage)
- No honey type selection needed
- Support single-hive harvests (multiple hive selection not available)
- Create separate batches with codes like 2025-POL, 2025-PRO
- The batch identifier format is configurable by your organization administrator
Wax:
- Enter weight in kilograms
- No honey type selection needed
- Support single-hive harvests
- Create separate batches with codes like 2025-WAX
- The batch identifier format is configurable by your organization administrator
Note
Pollen, propolis, and wax each create their own separate batch using the harvest type code. The batch codes (e.g., POL, PRO, WAX) are configurable in organization settings. For example, you might have batches like 2025-POLLEN, 2025-PROPO, 2025-WAX depending on your organization's configuration.
Multi-Hive Harvests¶
You can select multiple hives for a single harvest record. This is useful when honey from several hives is harvested and pooled together in one extraction session.
Warning
All selected hives must belong to the same organization. The harvest record will be assigned to that organization automatically.
The weight and cost represent the totals for the entire harvest event, not per-hive values.
After Saving¶
After saving a harvest record, you are redirected to the harvest detail page where you can review the recorded data, see the batch assignment, and take further actions.
Editing a Harvest Record¶
- Open the harvest detail page
- Click Edit
- Modify the fields as needed
- Click Save
You can change the selected hives, date, weight, honey type, cost, and notes.
Who Can Edit¶
- Organization Owners and Admins can edit any harvest record in their organization
- Members can edit only the harvest records they created
Deleting a Harvest Record¶
- Open the harvest detail page
- Click Delete
- Confirm the deletion on the confirmation page
Who Can Delete¶
- Only Organization Owners and Admins can delete harvest records
Warning
Deleting a harvest record is permanent and cannot be undone. If the harvest is assigned to a batch, the batch totals will no longer include this harvest's weight.
Reassigning a Harvest to a Different Batch¶
Harvest records can be linked to a honey batch (charge) for traceability. You can reassign a harvest to a different batch or assign an unassigned harvest to a batch.
- Open the harvest detail page
- In the Batch Assignment card on the right:
- If assigned to a batch: Click Reassign to Different Batch
- If not assigned: Click Assign to Batch
- Select the target batch from the dropdown (only open batches in the same organization are shown)
- Click Reassign Harvest
When you reassign a harvest:
- The harvest weight is removed from the old batch (if any)
- The harvest weight is added to the new batch
- If the target batch has a different honey type, the harvest's honey type will be updated accordingly
Note
You cannot reassign a harvest to a closed batch. Only open batches appear in the target batch dropdown.

Honey Types¶
Honey types are configurable choices managed in System Configuration. Common types include:
- Forest Honey (Waldhonig)
- Blossom Honey (Blütenhonig)
- Linden Honey (Lindenhonig)
- Rapeseed Honey (Rapshonig)
- Acacia Honey (Akazienhonig)
Your organization administrator can add, edit, or remove honey types in the system configuration.
Harvest Reports¶
Click View Report on the harvest list page to access the harvest report. The report provides aggregated views of your harvest data, filterable by date range and hives.
